Ad hoc critical friend, mentoring and advisory services will support you on your digital transformation journey. One to one conversations or in-person meetings to talk through your plans and review your options. No fixed programmes, no minimum number of hours, no pressure. Though I will share techniques and templates where it will help.
Relationships focused around exactly what you require and to suit your priorities. Every call adds value or there is no need for you to come back once you are confident in your abilities.
Maybe you have the skills yourself to manage your digital transformation, but nobody else has the experience to challenge you constructively. Many small companies only have one expert, and an independent critical friend would be useful to give a second opinion. Or you just need someone to discuss ideas with and offer mentoring and support along the journey. Or you have been newly promoted and it’s easier to be open to advice from someone outside the organisation.
My style will leave you feeling positive and focused. But do expect me to question everything and play devil’s advocate sometimes, to test that you have thought things through.
- Critical friend to support you through change
- Mentor for newly promoted staff
- Ad hoc or regular sessions
- You drive the agenda
Why would I want a critical friend?
Sometimes, it’s useful to have a sounding board. Someone who is deeply interested in your company and understands the difficulties of what you’re doing, but who can offer an outside perspective and new ideas.
It helps to have a regular meeting when you want to set yourself targets. In the daily firefighting, it’s too easy to stop progressing the longer term strategic priorities. I won’t be a taskmaster, but just knowing that you have a meeting coming up pushes you to take action on those vital changes you want to achieve. And it also reminds you to appreciate how far you’ve come and provides the encouragement to keep going.
Where your team lack experience in thinking strategically, it also helps to have someone in key meetings who can facilitate discussions and make them more productive and valuable. Where you have plans for growth, an external consultant helps you think them through fully and makes sure you’re ready to answer any questions the board of directors or potential investors might throw at you.
